Summer Road Trip

I just returned from an exciting summer road trip.

It was the perfect graduation celebration and kick-off to summer
(P.S. Thank you so much for all of the graduation wishes :-)

We made our way through  the American Southwest and more...
Route 66
Grand Canyon, Arizona
Four Corners, USA
Aspen, Colorado
Moab, Utah

I will be sharing a few of our photos in upcoming posts...

Today, we'll be getting our kicks on Route 66!

Route 66 by Chuck Berry

Our first stop from California was our neighbor state, Arizona.

We stayed in Williams, about an hour away from the Grand Canyon, in Arizona's oldest hotel: The Grand Canyon Hotel

It was not your typical chain, but very historic and charming.

It was also affordable (traveling on a budget IS possible!) I loved it.

The hotel was located right on the famous
Route 66.

There was even an option to take the train to the Grand Canyon.

After exploring the little town of Williams

and stuffing our bellies at a Route 66 styled diner,

we decided to kick up our feet and rest for the Grand Canyon the following day.

Stay tuned for a very GRAND post.

Purple Love

This tree with the
purple flowers is near
my home, and every
time I pass by,
I admire it.

 When I was at the
store, this Taffy was
sitting right in the
center of the store,
and I just had
to buy some. Guess
what flavor it is?
Huckleberry.

Have a good
rest of the week.

A Little Taste Of Italy

Me and my son went to a fabulous Italian Restaurant for lunch this weekend.  The scenery outside was so attractive.

I ordered my favorite, chicken fettucini.  The sauce was buttery and delicious, and the chicken was grilled.

The atmosphere was charming, and songs were being played by the old singers like Frank Sinatra.

Nel wants all her family to take a trip to Rome soon.  I have been pondering over the idea.  I can only imagine the amazing food they have there.

Do you like Italian food as much as I do?

My Special Tree

I was at the park
sitting under
my favorite tree
thinking about a
few things.

Just then, the sun
started to shine
through the
branches, and the
leaves started to
shake from
the wind.

The sun peeked
through brighter

and brighter.

I think it was
reassuring me that
all is right
with the world.

Graduating Girl

Jess got her teaching
credential, and is going
to start her Masters
Program this summer.

I found this bottle of
wine with a red rose on
it, and what better way
to celebrate!

I remember reading
to you when you were
a little girl, and how far
you have come.  Now, you
will be reading to your
students.
Your mom is here
telling you.....
"thank you for all
your hard work."

Words of Wisdom

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake

Huckleberry Friend

Father's Day
is Sunday, and I'm
just thinking of
my dad.

Some purple
flowers for you,
Dad.

This song has
always reminded
me of my dad,
and I wanted to
share it with you.

Hope you have
a grand day with
your Fathers.

A Jewel of a Project

I found a great project idea on Pinterest a little while ago. It's a do-it-yourself jewelry wall!

My bracelets, necklaces, and earrings were scattered all over the house, so I thought this would be a fun and creative way to organize my pretty pieces.

For this project, you just need a few materials that can be easily purchased at your local Home Depot:
  • Wall hooks (any color or size you prefer)
  • Wooden rod (the sales associates can cut the longer rods to size for you)
  • Chicken wire (ask for the scraps from the larger rolls they cut down--just $0.51 for the three pieces I took home!)

I also picked up an antique-looking frame from Aaron Brothers and selected a few pretty sheets of card-stock I had tucked away in my craft bin.

Just take out the glass from the picture frame, and fit the back with the chicken wire. Then create a collage with a few choice papers for the backdrop.

I decided to incorporate my favorite passage from Kate Chopin's The Awakening for a little literary inspiration.

The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell . . . The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace.
(Kate Chopin, The Awakening)

This was a super easy and FUN project, and I just love how all my jewelry looks arranged on the pretty displays.

What home-projects have you been working on this spring?

A Big Smile On His Face

As I told you before, me and my son are very close.  He came home one day with a big smile on his face saying, "I got another tattoo."  My first response was, "Oh no, not again."  "You'll never guess what it is," he said.  "What?" I asked.  "A hummingbird.  I got it for you," he said.  As you know, the hummingbird is my beloved bird, and I guess if he had to get a tattoo, I'm glad he chose this.  Now, he'll always have a part of his mom close to him.

Speaking of hummingbirds, one flew right in front of me, and I tried to get a picture of it, but they fly away so quickly.

I found this garden stake and just had to buy it.

Do you have any
hummingbirds
around
your home?
